It feels as though Detached Youthwork is the tentative way forward for any face to face youth engagement post the lock down.
The Federation of Detached youthwork (FDYW) have an ongoing page of updates, policies on what to do in delivering detached youthwork safely Do have a look at this, before embarking on any detached work.
But… is it a while since you’ve been out on the streets?
Does detached youthwork seem like a million years ago?
A thing you did to start a project and as soon as you got the young people inside, you’ve stayed there ever since.. or something you did on a college placement and that’s all?
Well, if that is you, and you’re looking for
- online training on starting back out on the streets..or
- some external supervision around the beginnings of delivering detached youthwork,
I can offer both of these things to help you was you start back out again
Subjects that I can provide training on include:
- Making sure you start right – developing skills and team
- Observation
- Cold Contact and conversations
- Challenges and boundaries
- Planning, evaluating and developing the work
To note, I will not be dealing with all the safety concerns, these are all laid out in the policies above, and it will be for you as team and organisation to implement and manage these appropriately, but if its basic refreshers, reminders and some time to think about the nuts and bolts of detached and outreach work you’re looking for, then do get in contact.
Maybe you’re an experienced team and want an external voice to help refresh you in the basics, to go through some scenarios or themes that you’re struggling with, whether its challenging behaviours or how to develop the work, or just spend some time building the team confidence and awareness, then again, do be in contact and lets see what can be arranged, as I would love to encourage you in your detached youth work process and development.
